Sorry to repost this.

I had meant to close the survey already, but I've got 30 complete survey responses from school counselors, and only 6 complete ones from homeschooling parents & only 2 from college students who were homeschooled.

Due to this, and to the bias school counselors who have NOT worked with homeschool families may have, I feel that this survey is going to be skewed in a way that does not accurately reflect the experience and opinions of most homeschoolers.

I am a strong advocate for homeschooling; please see my other post "Please help with a research project" for more about me.

I have to turn in my results at the end of this week to graduate, so if you have a moment, please consider adding your voice to the survey.

I have been notified that one or more questions may need commentary to explain your answer; please feel free to leave me comments here below this post. If you will permit me to use your comments without names in either this graduate research project or the journal article that may follow next year, please say so in your comment. I will not use any names or personally identifying information; I just want to know if you would want assistance from a school counselor.

Thanks for looking!

Take the survey here.

:) Cori Laraway

One more thing: I will keep the survey open until midnight on November 3rd, to give me time to include any changes in the numbers by my deadline on the 6th.

Thank you!

I took the survey. I'm afraid that most school counselors wouldn't like my answers.

Thank you so much! I'm not worried about them not liking your answers; I'm worried that homeschooling families--REAL homeschooling families--would be underrepresented in this paper!

I want to know and present the truth of it. I'm getting strong opinions, and that will make for an eye-opening research paper and follow-up article! I'm already learning so much I didn't expect!

Thanks for giving me your input!

 Cori

Forgot to include:

Can anyone give me synonyms for "homeschool/homeschooled/homeschooling" besides "home education/home educated/home educating?"

I think I've used variations of the first three terms about a hundred times in my first two chapters!

How about "non-corporate environment education"

That would bump up my word count, Chris!

I have to thank those that are participating; I have three more surveys from homeschooling parents, and every little bit helps!

Thanks again! I'm getting a much meatier paper to write now!

I'm just starting out with hsing my little one, but we've been using the term "self schooling" when we talk to people.... as little of the schooling we do is actually happening at home, and I do pretty much all of the schooling myself :-)

This is interesting....

Has anyone on this board asked for help from their district for anything?
I figured it was up to the district whether or not they will open the school to help HS students.

I would be afraid if you asked for help they would decide
to get too involved.
I know in PA we can let our kids be involved in sports and
music, like band and chorus. Which my hubby really likes
because his big hesitation in the homeschool decision was
them not being able to learn and perform an instrument. I
am still a little hesitant, especially after reading an
article in the summer edition of The Old Schoolhouse
magazine about being involved in any way with the public
schools.

Oh, I like that term: self-schooling.

From my research, I learned that school boards decide what policy to set for each individual school district. So the rules can be different from the next town over, or the other side of town...

And I think you're right to be concerned about how much the school might want to become involved. There are a lot of people who love to control, instruct, and guide in the school districts, and sometimes they don't know (and don't pick up on) where to draw the line.

It would not be in every district, but there would be no way of knowing for yours, unless there is another family in the same situation who has prior knowledge.

Good luck!

Yeah! Up to 13 parents who have completed surveys!

Thanks, everyone! I'd like more, but every little bit helps!
