Miska - Students do login on their own into Time4Learning from any computer. And the lesson planning and record keeping is automated so they see the next lessons automatically. And you can look at their progress report online whenever you want.

Time4Learning is student-paced so there is no simple or strict answer to your question of "exactly how long it takes to complete the lessons per day".

I'd say that for fourth graders using Time4Learning as a homeschool curriculum in multiple subjects is to expect more than 45 minutes online per day and no more than two hours.  It also depends on whether you work with a "short" or "long" year to get through the curriculum.

What I learned from the T4Ling forum when we were using it was that at the beginning of the year, you should figure out how many days of schooling you will be doing.  Divide that into the number of lessons available in each subject.  That would give you the number of lessons to do each day... EX:  (using round numbers for easy math)

Number of days of schooling (150)
Lessons for Language Arts (600)=4 each day
Lessons for Science (150)=1 each day
Lessons for Math (450)=3 each day
Lessons for SS (300)=2 each fay

The "time" required for each one would depend on HOW quickly/slowly your child progresses through the lesson.  Also, on whether or not you print off the Resources (worksheets) to do as well.

As far as what lessons to do when - this is dependant on you &/or your child.  There isn't technically a place where you can "assign" work (although you can go through the lessons and write down the assignment numbers, then list the ones you want your child to do separately.  They would then log in & fill in the assignment # to do that particular lesson).  My youngest did them all in order while my middle son jumped around.  It didn't seem to matter the order (as long as they did all of the lessons within the topic at the same time).  I would recommend doing the math lessons in order though...

That is a great way to get an idea of how many lesson activities need to be done each day to get through the grade level during a school year. Because some activities will take ten minutes and some could take quite a bit longer (such as those requiring research), you do need to remain flexible.

I haven't found a need for an "Assignments" function, because I just tell my children to do two math activities, three language arts activities, and so forth every day (as Kriste explained above). If they run into an activity that looks like it will take longer than half an hour, we adjust that day's schedule. I leave twenty free days in our school schedule, so we don't get behind.

I've found that a lot of people try to make scheduling Time4Learning lessons more difficult than it really is, especially if they have previously used online programs with rigid scheduling requirements or the CDs that require you to prepare an assignment calendar at the beginning of the year.

Great, Thank you!  I'm looking forward to trying T4L for both my 4th grader and for my preschool age twins.

My son loves the read along stories in Time4learning, we have only found a few though. Is there another place to look for more?

Sherry, There are a LOT of read along stories in
Time4Learning. Many are in the language arts extensions
(not just the main language arts section). Also, since you
have
access to the grade above and below
, you can get more
this way. I would advice using the grade below materials
since you don't want to use too many of next year's
materials this year.

Sherry. One more thought. Many parents overlook the really
cool
printables
in the first few grades. So for second
grade (which I think is your grade), if you login as a
parent, you will find teaching guides for the language arts
extension exercises and the stories. While these are
supplementary, if your child loves the story, you can print
them out and use them as read-alouds. There are also
pictures to color from the stories. In later grades,
there's more of a focus on discussion questions and
literary analysis in the teaching guides.

Wow - all of these posts just make me want to sign up for Time4Learning all over again...

I know you really don't need my two cents, but someone did ask a question about T4L vs. SOS. That I can answer.

My daughters did SOS for 1 year. Though it is challenging and somewhat engaging... they do tire of it easily. And yes, I would agree that it is much like an e book. My girls got very bored with it, they would skip the reading section and go right to the questions for the day. There are also catches - where if you don't capitalize a word correctly the whole answer is wrong.  SOS was great in the assigning and reporting area...but that just makes things easier for mom.  It is my children's education that I am concerned about.

T4L is really wonderful. I agree with all of the other posts, that the child LOVES to do the work.  In fact, I like to sit and listen to the cute little cartoon characters - they really are funny!

Yet, as others mentioned their concern about using it as a complete curriculum - I am still on the fence there.  I come from a very strong ABEKA background - with a bit of a twist toward CLASSICAL education.  So we still use Abeka math - and have a separate Latin program - spelling words - and book reading time. AND I am still new to T4L -but the more I see the more I like!!!!

Hi i saw this thread and had to jump in and share my exsperiance with T4L!

We purchased T4L last year my dd who was 7 at the tme was really struggling with her reading; We had purchased abeka for her as "most private schools" were using it..Even thou i could see it was a good curriculum it just didnt work for us..So at my wits in i comb the message boards looking for something else and came across time4learning!

I loved the fact it was online and that i didnt have to really hover for her to complete her work,Plus it keeps track of her grades that way i can check them later. At first she was behind so the fact i could access the grade before and ahead was Awsome!..

Recently she had her year end evaluation ,and she passed! They even said for math and science and social studies she was above grade level,Plus she is finally able to read....This year T4L is all we are using out side of some readers and some stuff that i make myself.....

The best part is my 2 yr old loves watching his sis do her work,He loves the cartoon characters and lately i have been letting him do some school work on it for fun..He is learning shapes and letters ,Im just so proud of him :)

but yeah i would defiantly recommend  time4learning to anyone ...I mean with the 2 week risk free trail what do you really  have to lose Kwim

Keri
